For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:17 NIV)Most of us can quote John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” You often see just the text John 3:16 on billboards, on signs people bring to sporting games, etc. You hardly ever see the next verse, John 3:17. I think verse 17 is very important. Jesus told Nicodemus the reason the Father sent Jesus to this earth. It was because of love. The Father and Jesus desires that none should perish. Some think that the Father is stern and waiting for us to make a mistake so He can punish us. Yet, when you read John 3:17 you see that is not the case at all. God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to save the world – not condemn the world.
